How to keep your little ones busy while working at home

Many Moms have been trying to solve the issue to finding a great way to still work but keep their children busy so they do not feel overwhelmed or not able to get work done. This has become the case for many Moms who choose to work at home. What most do not realize is that it is more than possible to keep a sane, organized schedule while having your children around. In many cases your children might have to adjust to the new circumstances but as with anything, over time they will adapt. It will allow you to get the much needed work you are doing for them and their future, to get done without feeling overwhelmed.

Here are a few ideas to keep your little ones busy while working at home during the day or evening:

1. Nap Time... (Yes, it is not busy for them but it is busy for you) Most of us with children under 5 years old who are not in kindergarten or preschool have a nap time schedule daily for them and some do not. This is a great way to get work done (especially phone calls) without feeling interrupted. Some children do grow out of it by 3 or 4 years old, but if we keep them on routine daily with their nap time, they will still do it until they reach preschool or kindergarten which allows you that 'phone call time' or important work time that needs to get done. I would utilize this time to do your most important things that can not be disrupted.

2. Play office by Mommy... This has been a savior for not only myself but many other WAHM's (Work at Home Moms) who need something to occupy their little ones so they can get a little work done. Place a play phone, play desk, paper, crayons, etc. right next to your desk or laptop area and let your children 'Pretend to be Mommy'. Children look up to us as Parents, so not only does this give them something to do but also teaches them a good work ethic at a very young age.

3. Movies/Books... There are many educational movies, shows and books out now a days. Children can learn so much from Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, etc. Now, I would not take this as your only tool to getting some work done. But, do not feel guilty to let your child watch their favorite movie or show while you get a little work done. Placing a TV in near your work area can help, they feel near you while you can still get your tasks done for the day. Books are also great for the children who can sit still and entertain themselves. Get books with lots of colors, pictures and maybe some added interaction to them.

4. Coloring/Painting/Crafts... Being artistic is something almost any little one likes to do. I suggest the Color Wonders by Crayola. Which allow you not to worry about the floor, walls or furniture. With the little office space you set up for them by you, you can set them up on a project or coloring while you get some work done.

5. Online Children Interactive Sites... There are many sites out there like Nick Jr. that allow children to utilize the mouse to interact and learn. If you have an extra laptop or desktop that you are not using to do your work, get them set up and going with one of these sites through many of their educational, interactive programs, coloring or fun games

The Work at Home Mom Blues

Have you ever gotten the “work at home mom blues?”

That’s the topic of this week’s feature article in WAHM Tips. Before I wrote this post, though, I wanted to know how common a problem this really is. I know I get a little blue about working at home sometimes, but maybe I was the only one.

Over the weekend, I surveyed some WAHMs and asked them if they ever got down, and if so, why. The majority of respondents (80%) admitted that they do get down once in a while. So, I’m not the only one.

Here are some the things that made them feel a little blue.

- feeling lonely at home
- missing out on fun things like shopping and lunch with like-minded women
- unstable income
- not sure if you’ll be able to pay the bills next month
- lack of a social life other than the internet
- demanding clients
- not enough clients
- things not going according to plan
- feeling overwhelmed with work and housework

I can sympathize with every one of those.

Getting the work at home blues, though, can be more than just a little bit depressing. I know when I’m feeling down, I don’t put everything I should into my business. Which means while I’m feeling for myself, I could be losing out on sales and clients, and other good things.

I’ve been working on avoiding things that get me down in the first place. Here are two tips I wanted to share with you:

Tip #1. Focus first on what really matters. Many of the survey respondents told me they felt better when they remembered why they’re home in the first place – to be with their children. I find I can avoid getting down when I set aside time each morning to focus on my reasons for being at home and for doing what I do. For me, that means having my daily devotion and doing some journaling. Those two activities really help me clear my head of any distractions and negative thinking, and feel peaceful about whatever is ahead.

Tip #2. Avoid negative people. I’ve found I need to avoid certain people who make me feel less than wonderful about my decision to work at home. For example, I had coffee with a girlfriend last week who has never fully supported my decision to start a home based business. That had been a pretty good day for me. I had gotten a new client, received some fantastic feedback from someone else, and was feeling pretty great about how things were going. But my friend was so critical of what I was up to, I ended up feeling pretty lousy by the time I came home. Sometimes I need to end a client relationship because they’re getting me down. If they’re overly critical of my work (you know the kind – nothing’s ever good enough!) or overly demanding, I just can’t afford to accommodate the negative feelings they send my way. When I avoid negative people, I have more room for the positive stuff.

How to Deal with your Money when you Work at Home

When you own a business online, chances are you will be paid once a month. So how do you deal with that? When you go from receiving a pay check once a week or once every other week; it can be difficult to switch and go to once a month.

From my understanding, getting paid once a month is not as difficult as you may think. A lot of businesses do this because it saves on checks and it takes less time to generate a check once a month.

Affiliate payments, payments from direct sales companies, and other service type businesses pay once a month. So it’s something that you will have to adapt to quickly.

Here are some tips that will help you manage your finances so you won’t have a problem later on in the month.

The first thing you will need to do is gather all of your bills and have them on your desk in front of you. If your bills come in through out the month, you won’t be able to do that, so you’ll need to have a list of your bills. Include the dollar amount and the due date. You will need to write a check for each one of your bills. Even if you don’t have them yet, right them out and set them aside so you can send it as soon as the bill arrives.

If you have the ability to do auto withdrawal, you should consider this option and then decide what date you want these to come out based on the day you get paid. Some businesses don’t allow you to choose the date the payments come out, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Next you’ll need to consider your grocery shopping needs. Make out a list of all your meals for the month. Then make out a list of the items you will need for each of those meals and add all the other things you will need. Now you can either buy all of the things that sit in the cupboard, freezer, or the fridge if they will make it an entire month or you will need to decide if you are going to shop weekly or biweekly. Which ever way you decide to go, you will have to stick some money back for groceries and any extra’s that may come along. If you worry about spending the money, you should consider putting it in an envelope.

When all of your bills are paid and you have the money taken out for food, gas, and anything else you may need, you’ll want to put some money into a savings account. The reason for this is due to the fact that when you are a WAHM your income may not be guaranteed. As much as we hate to say that, it’s true. So you need to save money so you can be prepared for your bad months.

Being a WAHM is a wonderful thing. When you are prepared when it comes to your finances, you won’t be stressed all the time. You will be able to focus on what you enjoy doing and not trying to make as much money as you can by doing things you don’t want to do. Create a budget and stick to it. This will help you make your money last through out the entire month.

Ever think about working at home rather than spending your life at the typical day job? Recently I received an email message that went something like this, "I want to do exactly what you are doing in my business." Come to find out what this person wanted to "do" was make lots of money using the Internet without having to work at it.

I almost fell out of my chair. I wasn't sure if it was from the fact that I was now in my tenth hour of working that day and I was tired or being taken off balance by my surprise at this person's belief that you don't have to work at something to be successful. 3 Big Business Tips That Mom Taught Me by Barb Girson

My mom is getting up there in age (92) yet she refuses to admit it. Maybe because her attitude is so young...or maybe she just does not believe it. She raised to two sets of children spanning an 18 year gap between my older brother and youngest brother.

Unfortunately, my dad died when I was 9 and mom fell apart for a while. In time, she found her strength and continues to be a constant source of inspiration to myself and those around me. At 92, she is still an independent woman. Although she never pursued a career outside of her family, she has passed down a wealth of practical wisdom that helped me build mine. The wisdom is timeless and has helped me to become a better leader and a better mom. Her attitude has been especially valuable to me in running a successful home-based business and in coaching entrepreneurs how to gain confidence.

Now living in an independent Senior Living apartment, mom gets to finally accept help from me. In honor of Mother's Day, here are a few of my mom's mom-isms that help me in business:

1. Just Smile And Say Thank You.

Mom understands how to build self-esteem. As a young chubby, adolescent girl, I would frequently bat off compliments when they came my way. "I like your new shirt", someone would say. "I would reply, "It's not new, I got it a few years ago." or "You did really well on your presentation." And my reply, "But, I messed up..."

If mom ever heard me deflect kind words or recant my errors, she would firmly say, again and again..."Just smile and say Thank you."

Now I realize that compliments are a gift. Someone wants to notice you and we demonstrate poise and worthiness by accepting the gift. Smiling and saying thank you communicates self-esteem, a state transferable and essential to all situations. Attitude is everything!

2. Make It Easy On Yourself

One day when our daughters were little, I felt so overwhelmed by the amount of business deadlines, kid's activities and mounting stressors on my To-Do list. There was no relief since the home was our mecca for family and business. I called my mom, she listened and could hear the pressure I was putting on myself. She gave me a few ideas:

• Buy some ready-made meals.... and once you heat it up in your own pans and take it out of the oven...no one will know or care.• Hire someone to at least help you through the rough time.• Be easier on yourself, and figure out what you need to do to relieve the pressure.

The next day, mom had a basket of apples delivered to my home. These short suggestions can go a long way, and make a big difference.

I would like to share a few important tips on how to make your networking experience a positive one, for you and your business reputation.

1. Read All Rules and Guidelines. It is very important to read all of the forum board rules, before proceeding with your first post. Rules and Guidelines vary from forum to forum, don't assume they are all the same. If you feel you can abide by the rules posted, then it's time to proceed to step 2.

2. Fill Out Your Forum Profile. Your forum profile is very important, so please don't overlook filling it out. Try to be as complete as possible with the information requested on your profile. Forum members do read new member's profiles. It's a great way to let others know about you and your business, without having to spam an Ad. I’ve been a work from home mom for two years now. My daughter goes to a half day program at her school and I am able to take her and pick her up. Whenever there are field trips, I am able to go. Staring your own business online can be easier than you think…but it does take time and effort. The first thing you need to do is decide what you would like to do online. Some entrepreneurs make their online money by affiliate marketing. This is where you build websites that promote a product that someone else is selling. When a customer follows a link to the product and buys it from your web page, you get a commission on the sale. This method is convenient because all you do is build site and wait for the money to roll in. However, effective affiliate marketing is a very serious thing and you cannot get into by any search you would do on a popular search engine. Stompernet offers great online tutorials for affiliate marketing but it costs a pretty penny. If you are interested in affiliate marketing, a good place to start would be to find some books with helpful information. If you’re low on cash, your library will probably have some of these. As great as it sounds, it has its issues as well. You have no control over shipping and you have to consistently be in touch with the distributor to ensure they have shipped to your customer. If there is a problem with the order, you’ve got to have a reliable distributor who is going to help you out and not leave you on your own to fix it. For this reason, you want to make sure you know all the rules and regulations a distributor has for being a drop-ship retailer.

Owning your own business can have some draw-backs as well. You are never completely “off” of work. You are the sole operator of your business which means you do the accounting, the customer service, placing orders, keeping your web site up to date, etc. I typically can take Saturday and Sunday “off” but I do check emails to ensure that I don’t have customer questions. When I go on vacation I must take my computer with me and check emails and put in orders, etc. It only takes about 1 hour per day, but I can never just not think about it.

You also need to consider that customer service is essential to an online business. If you lose your temper with customers easily or don’t treat them right, you’ll go south quickly. And again, building it takes time. Don’t quit any other job you may have until you are steadily making money online. It only takes 3-4 hours per day to run an effective online web site. That is if you’re only going to do one site.

I have to admit it's a frightening statement with signs of desperation oozing rather disgustingly pleading for a WAH job that may not come into existence for many months. There is really no way of making fast easy money NOW. Did I really say that? Well it's true to an extent. You can't make tons of money quickly online -- legally that is, but you can make money. While you're not going to make enough to pay all your bills, your mortgage or a down payment on your summer cottage, you will make enough to enjoy a venti mocha java from Starbucks and maybe pay a smaller household bill! Use your imagination and you may have enough to put a little bit away for your summer cottage.

Here are four very easy ways to make money online. Taking this route is probably best if you're not starving for money because like everything it takes a bit of time...with the exception of #4 and we'll get to that.

1. Everyone can write an article and submit it. Everyone has something they are knowledgeable about or is an "expert" in some field. If you have a basic understanding of the English language, good spelling and proper grammar you can do this and write for AssociatedContent.com They pay all US residents anywhere from $3 to $20 per submitted and approved article. You can also earn money for x amount of page views.

2. Paid surveys. I think this one is a bit trickier as surveys come to you depending on your demographics and your profile. Now, be careful you're not joining survey sites with the compensation of gift certificates or sweepstakes unless this is what you don't mind. Focus groups pay a lot more so it's good to look into those as well.

3. Paid to do offers, paid to click and paid to read emails. There are some very reputable paying ones. Back in my days when I first started online "paid to" was one of my make-easy-money-now ventures. Every so often I made my Starbucks hot chocolate money. It wasn't all that bad except it was time consuming, but it was good pocket change.

4. Craigslist. This is where you can make the big bucks and fast! Have anything to sell? Furniture? Sporting goods? Toys? Books? Clothes? I have found selling in your own city or state items go fast! You don’t have to be moving to have a moving sale. It just makes the items sell faster. Well I did it again, posted some easy ads before I went to bed. Woke up to a couple easy sales.

I feel bad for folks who purchased some kind of make easy money program just to feel scammed and never look back. When there are ways to make money online. They just don't know how or was to easly frustrated.

What I did to balance this out a little was created mycomfyhome.com I always wondered why there are not sites that offer free information on how to work from home or make easy money online. My assumption to this is people pay for information so webmasters profit from it. Makes sence, but I've always wondered if these websites offering this information for a small fee realize who and how they maybe effecting familys.

First they capture there targeted audience by beating the google keyword system. Then sucker there visitor with that incredible landing page written by a professional writer. Why do they do this? ........... It's all about money!

I just can't do it. I could create a money making information product and probly make a killing. Here's why I won't do it.

Let's pretend Sally, a single mother of 3 children struggling to pay her bills. She comes accross a website that offers her a financial break through to all her problems for a one time small fee of $79.00. She takes her last $80 bucks and gambles it in hopes to trust this money making program. No food in the house, baby needs formula and the heat is about to get shut off. I tell you what ........ It won't be me hurting that family over greed.

Why can't you find real information on how to make easy money from home online free? Well like I said "It's all about money" You have information worth selling, why not sell it right?
